Amistad National Recreation Area -  Located in southwest Texas, Amistad is an international recreation area on the United States-Mexico border that  provides outstanding opportunities for boating, fishing, limited hunting, other water sports, and general outdoor enjoyment.
The principal attraction here is the sparkling blue water lake behind Amistad dam on the Rio Grande.  The lake is fed by three tributaries; the Riod Grande, the Pecos, and the Devils River.  Adding to those tributaries, the numerous coves and inlets make up 850 miles of shoreline.  500 miles of shoreline on the U.S. side are open for recreational use and enjoyment.  The lake is pleasantly warm for swimming and other water sports 9 months of the year.  December< January, and February will occasionally have low temps near 30 degrees F.
